I have a 56 tall right now in which a severum destroyed all my plants except for java ferns and anubias. I'm going to cycle a 125 and want to load it with anubias.

What's the tallest and largest anubia species?

I think Anubias congensis is the largest species. They get huge though; well over 2 feet tall. Anubias barteri might be a better fit for a 125 (still easily large enough to reach the surface).

Just be aware that if you see something labeled "Anubias barteri var. nana" or "Anubias barteri var. nana 'petite'" those are not the same barteri. What you're looking for is Anubias barteri var. barteri.

I hope you have better luck with Anubias with you severum than I did. I have several Anubias in my 135 with severum and they get torn up. I had a beautiful Anubias Barteri about a foot tall and now it's just a giant rhizome with leafless spikes lol. You can kind of see what the naughty buggers have done here (2 severum).

Whoa nice sev! I didn't make the purchases yet and thanks for posting as you made me double think about "loading" up on anubias. My sev is only 5 inches and I'm sure as it gets larger it can destroy anubias. I'm hoping I get lucky but only time will tell.

Maybe others will chime in with success stories of anubias and severums? :)

What's nice about Anubias though is that they are very tough plants. As long as the rhizome is healthy you can take it out and regrow it in a separate tank and it'll grow its leaves right back. They are just such slow growers though.

Thought I'd post an update. Received my anubias which were huge. The severum went to town with his chainsaw and ripped siabout certain leaves. I did notice he targeted leaves which were softer and going thru transplant shock. The more sturdy leaves were left alone...for now. I'm probably going to end up selling him if lettuce doesn't deter the situation.
