A field study was done on this species in Brazil and found the average length of a sexually mature adult to be around 570-590 mm, however a maximum of 673 mm was found. Of course, this doesn't mean that they won't continue to grow, but it's suggestive.

According to Fishbase, they can reach 120 cm.

3-4 feet in the wild certainly seems a plausible (albeit unconfirmed) maximum size.

After re-reading my post, I realized that although it was technically correct, it would benefit from some clarity.

The study was meant to determine when the species first became sexually mature.

The L50 was 570-590, meaning that 50% of the specimens below that size were still not found to be sexually mature. In short, at least half of the wild species wasn't even starting to reproduce until at least 2 feet in length. All of those that had reached 28 inches were sexually mature.

Allowing that adults live a long time past the initial onset of sexual maturity, and continue to grow, reaching 3 feet is almost a given for those specimens, while 4 feet seems plausible.
