Looks close to pic #3 on PCF: http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=571

I wish an MFKer gets it and dedicates a nice, long thread to it. Pretty unique catfish with them flattened barbells. Expensive though!

@CANAMONSTER what is your Spencer Jack asking for his??

My piggy has no nothing left to buy fish this year or any time in the observable future :(

You and me both!!!! Lol
Spencer has 1 listed at 3 to 4inch for 75 bucks

Spencer replied that he has no time but says to check his Facebook now and later. Would you, anyone? I am not on FB.

" There is one small one left if i get any sort of time (doubtful as am 3 staff short and slammed) any pictures we get a chance to take will go on the facebook page. but this time of year I barely have enough time to keep up let alone pictures. Cheers. Spencer"

A field study was done on this species in Brazil and found the average length of a sexually mature adult to be around 570-590 mm, however a maximum of 673 mm was found. Of course, this doesn't mean that they won't continue to grow, but it's suggestive.

According to Fishbase, they can reach 120 cm.

3-4 feet in the wild certainly seems a plausible (albeit unconfirmed) maximum size.

Here's the actual study: http://www.scielo.br/pdf/bjb/v66n1b/a14v661b.pdf

After re-reading my post, I realized that although it was technically correct, it would benefit from some clarity.

The study was meant to determine when the species first became sexually mature.

The L50 was 570-590, meaning that 50% of the specimens below that size were still not found to be sexually mature. In short, at least half of the wild species wasn't even starting to reproduce until at least 2 feet in length. All of those that had reached 28 inches were sexually mature.

Allowing that adults live a long time past the initial onset of sexual maturity, and continue to grow, reaching 3 feet is almost a given for those specimens, while 4 feet seems plausible.
