My first post! I picked up what was labeled electric blue Texas cichlid last weekend. Too cool looking to pass up. I can't seem to find much info. Can anyone shed some light! Thanks!

Forgive me if I'm wrong. But this is a trend I seem to be noticing. Alot of LFS sell Herichthys cyanoguttatus as "Texas Cichlids" and Herichthys Carpintis as "electric Texas"
Also it could be a hybrid, a failed red Texas. But to my knowledge there is no Blue Gene "Texas" so therefore no Electric blue? Again, this is just my observation and understanding. I'm not speaking facts, only theories. Your picture just looks like a good looking little Herichthys Carpintis Escondido to me. Great fish!

I got one just like it, was sold at pet smart as red Texas. Definitely not a red Texas or electric blue Texas, but still a good looking fish. I have found mine to grow and behave like a regular Texas

Yes that looks like a very nice carpintis, although it can be a red Texas bc it seems like it has red on the fins but could Just be the picture

This is the problem with common names which fish are you referring to as "regular texas"? H.Carpintis or H.Cyanoguttatus? I've seen them both called Texas. And as for red Texas, their hybrids. So sadly sometimes they look exactly like one parent or the other. Or sometimes they look like neither parent. I've seen " Red Texas" with zero red in them. :(
