That should work. I have T'ed from my closed loop circulation, but same concept. I close the output on the cls, and open the ball valve where i have hose connected. The pump for my cls is used to quickly drain the water. If you dont have cls, you can also connect pump, or just stick to siphon.

It can be a curse being tidy, but I learn to moderate. So I'll take it as a compliment lol.

Let me know if you have any specific questions and/or pix. I was a newby with plumbing so sought advice and help from my bro-in-law. So sharing what i now know...

Thanks i will surely ask for it with this being the first tank i do my own filtration. I guess here is a question for you that has beem on my mind, if i have 1.5" pipe what size bulkhead would i use? As well as what size hole would need to be cut for the bulkhead. And same thing for 1" pipe!

It's been awhile since i thought about it, but the autocad drawings that i have showed 2 1/2" and 1 3/4" for 1.5" and 1" bulkhead, respectively. This is for 12mm glass, but i dont think that matters.
