Well I that's difficult lol, and not so accurate, each scale doesn't have to have a stripe, I counted 17 however to the dorsal
Very good. I counted 16 stripes to the front of the dorsal consistantly on my frankies.

Ray Chan posted this is brasiliensis. It looks different enough to my ignorant eye from all other pictures. Could it be true?

I counted 15 scales inbetween lateral line and dorsal, which would indicate otherwise. Looks like a larger specimen who would have a rounded head by then. Don't believe it to be a brassi. I think the issue with mis-IDing comes because the common name is given to both, both do indeed get gold, brassi is more sought after and worth more, which would probably make the locals in SA say it is brassi and sell it for more, so they sell it for more up here thinking it's what they got. It's easy to mis-ID when you take into consideration not every specimen will have a rounded head and not everyone will know to count the scales between dorsal and LL.

A smaller brasiliensis (?) 4"-5" by Ray again: https://www.instagram.com/p/BC6QjSws22h/?taken-by=amazingfish247

He calls these brasie too but these look like the usual ones, frankies to me, no? https://www.instagram.com/p/BB7qbGas257/?taken-by=amazingfish247

Although their snouts are blunter, just as moe214 moe214 says brasie's should be: https://www.instagram.com/p/BB2kju9M29a/?taken-by=amazingfish247
First link looks Frankie, second and third look promising, but one of their snouts is banged up, so maybe that could be why. DB got some, guess we can wait and see, when they're small it's hard to ID as their scales are small for their size when large let alone when young. He is one of the few who have kept both for years, he thinks they are correctly ID'd, I hope he's right. Their heads do look blunt.

Looks Frankie to me.

DB's old video. The difference is very clear to me if you're using head shape.

I can't tell the difference...... I'm not saying they're not Brasie.

I can definitely see the difference between the two! I also think like with some other characins its hard to tell when they are so small. At the size DB's are at its pretty obvious to me that there is a difference.
