Yup, that can be a pain. I had to do something similar and had my bro-in-law to help.

Here's a before and after. Not saying you need this but just for reference as it was a first time for me. We put two 8x4 beams parallel to the existing. My tank sits directly on top of the existing beam length. So just wanted to strengthen both sides.

Would you guys say a 40 breeder would be a good sump? I don't think too much water will drain from the tank of power goes out, plus there will be 2 aquatops and fx6 on the tank. Just need a sump to store heaters, and extra bio/plants

I think that would be sufficuant, if thats all that you want to have in the sump all you would need to do is to have a baffel in the front for where the water comes in followed by a chamber large enough to hold all the bio meadia that you want. then after that i would have the heater/refugium area and then a bubble trap before you pump return. If you wated to have more space in your sump you could drill it and have the pump outside it.

Yeah I just need it to hold heaters, and maybe a trickle tower, and If I have space maybe a Refugium with a deep gravel or sand bed and plants. What brand of filters can be out side the sump? Do they break the bank?

From what i have found anything other then the really cheap pumps will have threads on the input so that they can be used outside of the sump. Another way that you can have it set up is to have the water overflow into the sump go through the sump and then you have the canister filters intake in the end of the sump and used them the return the water back to the tank.
