day 3:safe start?

woo! I'm excited to add them. My mom says my moke wants to swim and be free lol. It's been a long time coming with them in the QT.
No i did not say to add poly, i meant im not sure if your going to add the poly first or wait till the 55g water perimiters are all stable before adding the polys.

I forgot why but i remember reading that dechlorinators can give a false positive when testing ammonia. twentyleagues twentyleagues have u heard this ? If so maybe u can better explain why.

Test for ammonia today if you havent changed the water in the 55 for a couple of days and post pics with and without flash if possible under natural sun light

This happens with prime.
What kno4te kno4te said. I have had that happen and I emailed them. Basically same response. With a more "mundane" answer. Because it binds ammonia so if you add prime and test you will almost always read a false positive. Don't test the day you add prime you have to allow your bb to get a hold of the bound ammonia and use it. Next day should be back to normal.

Im a big fan of fin level wc's but they have their place as do regular 50% wc's big fish equel big waste so large cichlids and over stocked poly tanks (like mine) call for removing as much water as possible during each wc but a 55 gal with 3 upper jaws shouldnt call for that level of water being removed. Test your water every few days during the 1st couple of weeks then after you get a feel for the tank start testing before each wc if the tank is only accumulating say 20ppm every week then imo an easy breazy 50% or 75% wc is fine
sounds like a plan!

very interesting! Didn't know one could get a false positive with the ammonia test. Thank you for sharing. Is this applicable even if prime is not used. Say a regular decholorinator? I tested for ammonia the other day and it was 0. But I did another water change before that.

what does it mean to bind ammonia? So prime binds to the ammonia, registers as more ammonia, and then the bb uses the ammonia to produce nitrates?

UPDATE: PUT THE POLYS IN THE TANK!!! and added half the bottle of safe start. The moke seem very happy and is swimming around so much!! Zoooom!

When I put the albino and the delhezi in, the giant danios started biting their tails. When the moke got put in, everybody scattered. Cannonball! The albino is having fun hiding behind the rocks and posing. Delhezi has been playing up in the bubbles from the filter. Can't wait for the two baby polys to grow bigger!
