The like is a good thing I'd say, just shows that people like something without having to comment or whatever. Or showing appreciation

krichardson - I see your dilemma.

Sure, but one could do the same with a *Do Not Like*, as in this comment is asinine, without having to come right out and say it. It could help reduce personality disputes on the forum.

I see the "like" button as a way of acknowledging to the writer that you have read their message as well as communicating to the writer and the reader that you either appreciate the information in the post or you endorse it. In these cases it cuts down on time to write and read a regular post.

As for the "dislike" button, if you see something you don't like, take the time to write why you don't like it in a regular post. Share your knowledge in a non-confrontational way and help your fellow hobbyist grow in knowledge and skill. If you just hit the "dislike" button there is no way for the poster or the reader to know WHY you are taking umbrage with what they said, leading to confusion, distrust, and the further propagation of disinformation/myths etc. You will have accomplished nothing but boosting your own ego by belittling someone else who's crime is that they are less experienced than you in the hobby.

That said, there are certainly some posts around the site that are way out of line now and again... and that's why we have the "report" button.

I used it for the first time the other day to report a moderator for moderation in their moderating. Serves a purpose I suppose, but I agree, I don't have much use for the "report" button. It would be interesting to see what percentage of the "reports" were actually something that needed to be dealt with by the mods....
