Because they are in danger everyday and use guns to shoot people. Us are not suppose to be shooting people.
Most cops in this city seem to be against citizens having guns period. It's as if the majority of folks who become cops are of that mindset and they go into threat mode when they see someone open carrying.
The police department here does not even allow it's officers to possess a concealed carrier's license.
I am an amendment guy, this is known, but bump stocks need to go, just not something average joe needs to have. either that or make them federally licence, same as you would need to own a automatic.
I am an amendment guy too and I am anti people saying or trying to dictate what they think other people don't need to or should have just because they do not care for certain items.
The bump fire gadgets have been around for years and most people knew nothing about their existence. They have never been big selling items but there will probably be a rush of gun enthusiasts buying them up now now that they are in the crosshairs of the antis and kneejerkers as the media "experts" now talk non stop about them.

My House!
Im retired law enforcement and in my prioe state i needed to qualify yearly and demonstrate proper usage of a weapon in order to maintain a carry permit. Civilians should absolutly be required to go through the same process.
I'm not very versed with American politics so I'm not going to voice my thoughts too much on the situation. However if what you say about law enforcement needing to re qualify to carry a gun but average citizens don't is true, I think that's silly.

Law enforcement should be more entitled to hold firearms than the average citizen in my opinion.

Hello; I see their point. Having to arrest or make folks do things they do not want to do will be safer if only the police are armed.
I get that most governments seem to like the idea of an unarmed citizenry.
I get that the break and entry or strong arm type criminals would like it if they knew old guys like me are not armed.

Here in Tennessee a lot of folks go armed. Not everyone of course. But the crooks do not know for sure and my guess is they have to consider that possibility before making a move.

Amen. Something that makes sense.

Idk i have no problem with it. Its a deadly opject when used carelessly so it doesnt bother me. I'd like to see citizen's have to qualify. I bet that would stop allot of idiots who have no business owning a weapon from obtaining one....sheer laziness. This guy had 47 weapons. Just doesnt sit right with me. Am i saying run out and take everyones weapons...heck no but id like people far smarter than myself to figure this out.

Hello; I guess it does seem odd but that is the nature of the rights we have in our constitution and the amendments. These amendments are also known as the "bill of rights."

Over many years our right to vote was restricted in various ways. Having to be a land owner or having to pay a poll tax. It has been eventually settled, at least so far, that a citizen's right to vote can not have strings attached.
Similar things can be said about the other rights which are named in our constitution.

Hello; Some places require police to be armed all the time or at least they are allowed to be armed all the time. So in that sense it can be a requirement.

Citizens get to make a choice about being armed in many places. We do not have to go armed unless we wish to. Of course some places greatly restrict our right to do so while others, such as where I live, do not as much.

Here is an interesting bit. The use of a firearm in an unlawful manner by a policeman is punishable just the same as for any other person under the law.

Hello; Something we can almost agree on. I would only change the word "have" to something like "really should".
I know a fellow who has no business with a gun because he will not go to the range and learn how to handle one properly. He took the CC class and did qualify so does have some basic training.
He has purchased some guns but has never test fired them. I have tried to impress on him how important range time can be. He has no way to know if his pistol will actually work or if it will digest the ammo he bought for it.

What i find amazing why would anyone have an issue with needing to re qualify ? We are talking about handling something that can kill ? Would you want to be proficient in its handling ?

S skjl47 if i follow your thought process then its a grave infringement on our rights that hollow point bullets are illegal.

Then this person should not own a firearm. Hes a danger to himself and who ever he is pretending to protect.

Hello; Yes he is the dumbest smart guy I know. He is a DMD so has the smarts. I try to get him to run a couple hundred rounds thru so he will know how it works and which ammo to use.
