Dang... is it due to the size? If I get one that's maybe 7-10" would it be less risky?

LOL thanks man. Was just looking at the knife on Aquascape and it's now GONE :( :(... actually not sure if it was ever available.
Yeah they get thick with big mouths. I think even at 7 to 10" it's mouth is going to be able to " house" a poly of all but the largest size I'd say up to double . Enough that at least I'd worry about it. Look up some of the feeding vids on them pretty wicked. I saw one eat a catfish almost as big as it.

Dang. Just saw a few on YouTube... they have lightning fast strikes. Goldfish vaporized.

My suggestion below. Simpler awesome fish. Not aggressive per se but will eat smaller tankmates. I never had an issue with polys disappearing but can't say the same for a grow out gar and Wolf fish

Would a brown knife (Xenomystus nigri) work? What about a mormyrid

DMD123 DMD123 Good to hear from you! Thank you for the suggestion. I've thought about the mid size pim cats, and the vulture cat is really attractive. Do you think one will outcompete the polys for food?
I had seriously considered one of the vulture cats for my tank but Im just too broke right now, lol. Bought a car a while back and now am working on a sound system for it.

I think my concern would be with the agression issue of my endli toward the cat more than the competition. But J jaws7777 has more knowledge of mixing cats in with polys.

The only issue ive had with cats and polys is my jur getting its butt kicked.

I would absolutely get the vulture. Lots of activity and mine has mixed well with my polys. I dont think it would outcompete them. From what ive noticed is it eats its fill fast but doesnt really gorge itself. I love mine. Fish Tank Travis Fish Tank Travis has two with a fire eel and has no issues.

You could also consider trachy trachy moe214 moe214 could talk more about them.

Another option would Hemisorubim platyrhynchos not much info on them but man they are stunning. I cant wait for mine to put on some size. They have thia iridescent sheen to them that beautiful ans they dont hide.

Like dmd suggested its always a gamble. My theory is cats that are active or hide are better with polys vs cats thar just sit out in the open that occupy the same space as polys...just a guess tho

Go for the vulture u will love it

Yep, I’ve got two vulture cats (about 10-11”) and three fire eels (12”, 16” and 18”) in my 220. Definitely a good catfish, and one of the most attractive for its size in my opinion.

OP, btw, you have a 220. The 220 is 72x24x30 while the 210 is 84x24x24.

Now, having put my input in on the vulture catfish being an awesome catfish, I would venture to say you shouldn’t add anything else to the tank due to it being ridiculously overstocked already. I only have about half the mass of fish that you do and my tank is very heavily stocked. My nitrates go crazy before I get to the weekly water change, and then I change out 90-95% of the water every week. From your posts, it looks like you already have six decent sized poly’s and three or four other large fish. In addition, it also sounds like you have another fish or two that you’re already planning to get. If you want to add a vulture cat, or anything else for that matter, I suggest you cut your stocking at least in half before you do. Otherwise, the tank is going to go a bit crazy as everything grows to maturity.
