True, feed them at first while petting with the other hand,this helps associate you with positive images,do everything graduallyIf you try to pet a young SAL (less than 12") from a dead sleep (daytime) they can fully jump out of the water so be careful about the top covering, and make sure the water line is not too high in the tank. The last thing you want is to have the SAL hit the top of the tank and injure its head.
