I'm getting a south american lungfish!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you try to pet a young SAL (less than 12") from a dead sleep (daytime) they can fully jump out of the water so be careful about the top covering, and make sure the water line is not too high in the tank. The last thing you want is to have the SAL hit the top of the tank and injure its head.

True, feed them at first while petting with the other hand, this helps associate you with positive images,do everything gradually

Okay, thanks. You said you could put them in a certain type of pool when they are grown. How would you do heating and filtration? I assume you meant something like a kiddie pool.
Yes a smaller snap frame, heat like normal, and either a diy filtration system or some big canisters attached to something so they don't get knocked down

Thanks. I live in Arkansas, so its a bit on the warm side. Would I be able to house my fish outside maybe?
During the warner months yes, bring in in winter.
Make sure to keep raccoons and herons away from pond, adding a pvc pipe and water lilies helps the lungy hide
