I recently bought a false jaguar catfish and he is absolutely wicked looking. The only problem is he never shows himself at all. It is frustrating. I know he doesn't eat much because the other fish beat him to it because he is always hiding! I started helping him a little by putting worms into his hiding spot and he gobbles them all up and got fat like a golf ball. Is there anyway I can encourage him to come out more? I have a raphael in a different tank and I got him to come out a lot more than he used to. Any ideas or personal experiences? I also removed a lot everything from the tank so he has nothing to hide behind. I know it makes him uncomfortable but my hopes are he will toughen up.

Yeah he definitely won't be more active. There's nothing you can do that will guarantee it will come out more. If anything more hiding places will make them more active. It's not gonna give up.

The best thing you can do would be to darken up the tank and add floating vegetation. IMO they looove that.

What I do for my cats is make caves for them that I can easily see into, That way they feel safe and I can watch them all I want. Also my cats always get more comfortable and come out more with time.

My false jag never comes. Only when food is out and for a few seconds. Vacuums it all up and gone. Not much can do about it. Learn to love ur catfish for what it is!

What kind of floating veg? I'd love to have plants but unfortunately my pleco ruins them all within a week.

Ohhh that looks nice! Maybe I will try that. I heard having more hiding place can encourage daytime movement but I wanted to check first before I buy all the stuff.

I've seen vids of them out swimming around with others. Is it because they are in a school and feel comfortable?
