Substrate Recommendations for 240 Gallon Piraya Tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I’m not sure how much help it’ll be but I use pool filter sand and unless I bury the python in the sand no sand or very few grains of sand get sucked out.
This is my experience though and may not be the same for you as I don’t know what your water pressure is like. It should be similar though I would imagine.

With the overflow and a cp55 in the tank I just do water changes the current takes the food and poop

Is sand bad for filters? I've seen some people say that.

It can damage the propeller inside causing you to have to replace it but other that is all I know about sand and filters. My pool filter sand is heavy enough that even if I flick some upwards it settles right back down. It’s a nice heavy sand.

I believe it is 4-5mm but don’t quote me on it.

Zugs I have a course grain sand that’s is mixed with almost pebbles that can give a nice natural look in one of my tanks. It has served me well.

Dloks Dloks bro you would be surprised how hard it is to find big tanks in Ontario. When I was there on my scouting mission last month I couldn’t find much at all. That’s why I am bringing 2-3 tanks from here when I move. The prices are brutal. People sell setups on kijiji for whatever they pay in the store or even more. I was quite disgusted tbh. I find sweet deals all the time here in Alberta.

the cp 55 is a Jebao wave maker. the water movement keeps me from having to vacuum the sand. i do it once or twice a year and just have snails and fish that sift the sand for gas bubbles. i like the finer sand 0.7mm- 2mm this way the poop cant get in there it just sits on top.
