Welp, this evening Brick decided to do an "Oscary" thing by wrecking one of the aquaclear 110s. That's right. The glass lid was pushed forward and the entire intake was floating in the tank. He also knocked the lid clean off (it was tilted in the air.) So he jammed his head through the back side of the glass lid, knocked the filter top off and knocked the intake stem off. And of course he scratched himself again.

I threatened him with the baking pan. Just another weekend in cichlid city.

Thanks! Brick was mostly pellet raised on Hikari (Excel, Gold, Bio-Gold, BP Red) and Bug bites. Now he's picky and changes his mind a lot. He was on a mealworm kick, then blackworms, then tilapia, and now its all mealworms again. I believe he eats extra pellets off the bottom when I'm not looking. But putting pellets in stuff doesn't work, he just sifts the pellets out and eats the "meat". I may try soaking them with tilapia. As a result I have a good supply of Boyds Vitachem. I also soak food in freeze dried garlic. He will eat sweet potato as a treat occassionally. He grew at a 2-2.5" a month clip until he was 10". At last measurement he was 12+ "and almost 6" high and around 2 1/2" thick. Really excited for his potential...Brick is around 16 months old. I believe contributing factors in his appearance are his own genetics, diet, jungle environment (he's got lots of stuff to mess with and explore), minimal stress, being raised in the 225 as a baby, water changes, plus attention from me. My tanks are downstairs so when I'm working I can just walk past the fishroom and they'll see me. He has a basketball he plays with too. I leave it in the middle with the lid up so he can bounce it.

He's also rotten, and gets head pats/body tickles. But only when he's in the mood. Last few weeks he couldn't be bothered. Moody O! But he wants to dance like "look at me" if I give another fish attention.

W/C schedule is twice a week, 80-90 percent. Main tank is 225, 6 foot.. Have 2 Finnex 24/7 plant strips with the nano red wavelength. I use custom 24/7settings. I'm noticing some sudden brown algae I haven't gotten in months. Not a lot, but I'm keeping an eye on it. Could be because my Choc Bobo has suddenly put on bulk and a couple of inches. With my bulkiest parrot Boss (who keeps going sideways/taller) in there too I've got some hefty cichlids. The two syno cats are standard size .

Brick's black pigmentation comes and goes. Sometimes his fin edges are completely white and the black disappears leaving all red. Right now he looks like he's been "peppered" and has black in his fins. Compare the current pic with the "Year One then and Now" thread where you see all his changes over time.

BTW, I measure him during W/C when he's on his side or I tape a clear ruler to the tank. Will do another check sometime this summer.
