Setting up a 75 for a baby Oscar...tank mates?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
just one or a few of them?
They don’t really need company. Like Rocksor Rocksor said, they hide all day, but during feeding time mine is all over the tank.

What about a bottom feeder to help clean up excess food that falls to the bottom? I've been back and forth on a pleco (common or sailfin) but they would end up producing a lot of waste once they get bigger so idk. In my mind I'm thinking of having 3 fish total...not really interested in any schooling fish...just the oscar, and a couple smaller mates that'll get along.

In my opinion, a common or sailfin in addition to an oscar in a 75 gallon is way too much waste

As mentioned Raphael cats hide during the day. Notice the one "hidden" in the piece of wood. They don't get real long, but wide that prevents O's from snacking on them.

I raised two oscars in a 75g until thhey wereabout 6-7" and it was a chore trying to keep the water clean I would only keep one oscar solo in a 75g or 1 oscar and maybe a small pleco
No plan to have more than 1 oscar...and plecos don't really stay small so not a big fan of that option.

yeah that's my concern on plecos. the cat might be an idea.

what about the oscar, a raf cat and some other cichlid...maybe green terror or a chocolate...some say severums but idk.

There are plenty of smaller plecos. Bristlenose is probably best, only gets 6 inches but is one of the best cleaners out there.

Simply too much waste from the Oscar to work with any other cichlid long term.

As others have already stated, thats not going to work out long term. Too much bioload and potential aggression issues.....
