UPDATE:
This is the main overview (PART 1) of the filtration for the pond.
I am using some tubs that I got at Tractor Supply to create a trickle tower system.
The base of the filter is a 110 gallon tub.

The extra holes are the overflows, and there are 5 output bulkheads at the bottom.

For the tiers, I added two 40 gallon tubs. One is for bioballs, while the other one is for mechanical filtration.
Here are the tiers all added up:

I then added 6 inch output pipes to the bottom bulkheads.

I will update everyone tomorrow on the pump and filtration media for the pond.

Now I know that this by itself is not sufficient enough to filter 20,000 gallons.
The pool already has a large filter with a UV and filter cartridge. This DIY filtration is just additional filtration.

That's going to make an incredible pond!
Just some pointers:
1. Using the existing filter for the pool might not be the best idea. They're not made for the type of waste fish ponds produce which means they have next to no biolocial filtration capacity (though you have a lot in the DIY filter) and they clog very easily on ponds.
2. Is the pond 6 foot deep all over or is there a shallower area towards the end with the ladder? When Koi are sick or have any other problems they actively seak shallower water to recuperate. If the pond is 6 foot deep all over you might want to add some kind of platform to create a shallow area. Just my 2¢ :)

Thanks for the advice!
I was just planning to use the DIY filter by itself because I found out the existing pool filter is broken, and I don't want to fix it right now. ?
The DIY filter has 2,300 1.5 inch bioballs and 24 feet of koi filter pads. The pump is rated at 3,000 gallons per hour.
The pool has a shallow and deep end. The deep end also has a shallow shelf on it.
