So
Poseidon2.0
and myself were catching up in a couple threads and they kind of derailed a bit because of talk about our mythical Rapps Bumblebee Oscars we both had at one time. The internet has a ton of information but of course much of it is out of date when it comes to these fish. Ben and I (David) both were under the assumption that the fish we had were a different species than what is being called a 'Bumblebee' today, because Rapps had been selling them as 'Astronotus cf. orbicularis'. The current line of fish being sold as Bumblebee are listed as A. crassipinnis.
This thread will have some pics, updated understanding and what not.
I will begin with what everyone wants pics, lol
This was when I first got my Bumblebee from Rapps at Tangled up in Cichlids, typical pouting behavior from being in new tank.
It grew quickly in typical Oscar-like fashion and the pattern really started to pop
This is my pic but it has been "borrowed" and featured on other web sites online, lol
Sadly a ways down the road it got sick. Looks like Ich but its not, was some kind of internal infection manifesting as external fuzzy spots. Did multiple treatments of various antibiotics but I did lose him in the end.
Feisty and a glass banger
Cant remember why he was in bucket... might have been for a treatment bath during the time he was sick or moving him into a different tank but you can see he was a good sized fish. the bucket measures 11 1/2" across! If he would not have got sick, I believe he still had growing to do, likely would have been 13" easily.
Any way this is the start to my shared thread with Poseidon2.0 about our Bumblebee Oscars. I will try to add some other info from Kevin@TUIC that he posted too.
