My flowerhorn won’t stop flashing on the driftwood I’ve been keeping up on water changes and have been feeding less often and mixing distilled water and epsom salt with the food like suggested in a past thread but still he won’t stop flashing. He’s really active and very aggressive and has even started to get a golden color on his face and kok. Today my flowerhorn has even ripped off a few scales from his body and kok. What do I do

What do you mean by flashing? Flaring up and going crazy around the tank? If he's getting injured because of the decor, take it out before something serious happens.

I think by flashing he means flicking his body across the sand/decor like some fish ddo when they have an itch.

The odd time every now and then is OK and nowt to worry about, but if he's doing it alot it could be a indication of a paricite or poor water quality causing it to irritate his skin/scales.

Whats dose your water test at and what's you w/c schedule.

As I say if he's doing it a lot its a sign something isn't right.

That first quote was from just a few months ago.

Think of a fish tank like a toilet, now imagine that you were forced to live in that toilet that you used every single day, but someone (not you) only got around to flushing it when they felt like it. Not a pleasant thought, is it? Well if Daisy could talk, that's what he would be telling you. And in actuality Daisy was letting you know how he was feeling, you simply didn't clue in to the signs he was sending you.

Like most things in life, I think that you will find that you will get out of this hobby what you put into it. Hopefully this was a lesson that you never forget.

Good luck with Daisy
Another Fabreeze situation? This fish sure has been through a lot since landing in your tank.

Sounds like either normal aggro FH behavior (occasional flashing), or something is off with your water. At this point parasites shouldn't be cause for concern, unless you have added something to this tank, or cross contaminated it from another tank. For now, remove objects that this fish can harm himself on.

But what about my 1” spotted Raphael catfish. He’s grown a lot and doing good. I have a little cave viewing window made of driftwood on the end of my tank so I always see him. If I take out all that stuff then he’ll be exposed.

I’ve been back on my good wc schedule by Doing about 75% 2 times every week. I did however take out my topfin filter because it wasn’t able to handle the tank and was a big mess so I only have one ac110 at the moment and yes I do mean he’s flicking his body on stuff around the tank

This is the best pictures I can get and one has a glare. I’ll continue to try to get a better one but for now this is all I got. I hope it’s helpful still.

That's up to you. If your FH is capable of harming himself on an ornament, wood or otherwise, that will be your decision. Personally I never kept my FH with tankmates, due to typical FH aggro reasons.

I’m comfortable keeping the wood in the tank. He’s been flashing for a while now and this is the first time he’s harmed himself but if I notice any more damage I’ll be immediately taking the wood out and move the spotted Raphael. Also some of the flashing is definitely due to aggression because he often goes against the glass and does the one thing you see agro fish do where they have their mouth open against the glass. Is there any thing I can do to stop him from doing that so often
