I’m not an expert by any means but I think the 5.8 ph did much more damage than .5 ammonia.

I suspect there is something else at play if your ph crashed that low, it most likely was a build up of something rather than a sudden spike….

Thanks. It was 5.4 earlier but it went to 5.8 now. Trying to find a way to increase the PH. I just hope the remaining 4 VATFs will do fine and not die on me.

Did a 50% water change and added a sponge filter and a canister filter. Ammonia just spiked to 0.5ppm. And the next thing, my fish became ill the next day and died within hours. ?

I found out that tap water for payara and fish like tiger fish isn’t good for them all the times because of the metals and other chemicals. I lost abt 7-10 tigers that way. I’ve been using prime for abt a year and haven’t had one issue. I do a 70%-80% water change a week

Just being curious... Will a white background, black ground or a clear background be more suitable for a tank of Vittatus?

Well when they are young I know the clean will not help with them being skittish. Plus their colors will be kind of faint. I never had a white background so I can’t help you with that one. I can imagine it give same problems as a clear background. I’ve always did a dark color like blue or black. I also would just go to the pet store and get one of the background they have on the rolls. Make sure that you get it long enough to cover the sides. The only way to view in the tank is from the front view.

Floating should be easier for them to eat since they are open water feeders.

Hi everyone again,
Just wondering if a 3" African Rift Hap Cichlid be ok to put in the same tank as my 3" juvenile Vittatus fishes. Perhaps when either one outgrows the other, they will then be removed from the tank
