Four (of 6) paroon sharks, rescued from Dayton, OH in Mar 2016

The paroons are true to their shark name. They never stop swimming around.

As you may know two we lost to the in-situ tank violence. The two adopted by Rodrigo of Pred.Fins have done great in his 14.5K in Boca Raton, FL, based on my personal visits and talking with Rod. (IDK but I am guessing they ate or attempted to eat plenty tank mates there... if our own experience is of any guidance...) IDK their fate after he moved to NYC.

Paroons are very predatory, most people assume they are gentle giants like sutchi. And they are persistent, if they can't swim fast enough to catch their targeted prey they simply follow it relentless until it tires out.

I saw some 3m sized paroons in a large tank in Singapore. Made my jaw drop.

I imagine a 3m paroon shark is one of the few aquarium fish that could eat an adult red tail catfish (ironically, the poster eater of big/expensive fish like cichlids and arowanas). Such a big, fast fish with an enormous mouth that it can even turn the tables on the classic.

Thank you for confirming our observations and thoughts.

On the size... shocking! 3 meters!? Are you sure? Is this at River Safari? That means our paroons are 3 times smaller haha...

The 5ft / 1.5m piraiba got attacked by two 3.5ft / 1m paroon shark catfish, who were not supposed to be hungry but maybe it is the breeding season that drives them to doing things like this. Paroons do have a bad reputation from some peers of being outright killers and predators, which is coming more and more true with years in our own experience. They will need to be separated from tank mates and maybe even from each other at some point, if it continues like so.

Peace for 4 days. Then came the feeding day and all fed well. In 1-2 days the paroons were found to bite the piraiba again.
