The other night the forecast was 32 degrees, so we fired up the two wood stoves. Forgot to fill the two large stock pots with water and put them on the big stove. At 1:30 am a blast of hot air hit me when I came out of our unheated bedroom. It was in the 80s, and the humidity was 50% and dropping. Had to fill the two 32 quart stock pots and get them on the stove and get a humidifier out of storage, clean it and set it up in the music room. I have been told that fine wood needs at least 50% humidity. Seven years ago, I had a very painful lesson when the sound board on my harp cracked. It had to be shipped to Italy to have the sound board replaced.
So I was scrambling at 2 am getting the humidity up. Yesterday I told my husband "no more wood in the big stove" Right now it's 67.1 degrees with 63% humidity with no heating in 24 hrs (although the big stove smoldered for many hours yesterday) Perfect.
