Just FYI, you can keep the turtles in the same pond as the cats, rays, and Gar. I made a simple wall of plexi glass that is 18" hignh that I haver around my pond to make sure my arapaima doesn't jump out. I haven't noticed my gars ever jump higher than an inch or 2. One of my gars is 14 years old and 4+nfeet long. The other is 5 years old 3+ feet. I think they are super easy to keep. I have had problems with arowanas jumping out..... sucks to find them on the ground. Good Luck and have FUN!

in most cases you're totally right, but my turtles are all sliders and are monsters (in the best way). they eat....EVERYTHING. they've eaten every plant i've put in there, include emergent ones like papyrus. any other living thing that isn't a turtle, is eventually food. More importantly the cats wouldn't be able to survive being frozen like the gar and turtles can. No rays so that's easy to deal with 🙃

Now being the top predator in the tank, the smallest gar has started eating like a glutton. Hopefully it'll be big enough soon to join the big boys in the 600

Caught these two snuggling up

And a lesser seen inhabitant, imperial ranger pleco (p. punctatus) came out just long enough for a picture

Also... I ordered new fish. They arrive Tuesday. There may be some arriving tomorrow through my lfs too. I know it's still early in the season but with the new teugs it gave me that itch again. I'm very excited but also very nervous as I've never spent this much on fish before. Anyone is welcome to guess for the glory of bragging rights

So I was patient and lucky and mostly patient and was able to catch the smallest gar. My fears were proven irrelevant pretty quickly. Someone found their confidence in the 300 and is now chasing the two larger gar. I measured it just before going in to the 600 (of course forgot to take a picture) at a hair over 12". The largest was measured at 18" when it went in. The largest is also almost double the smallest in size/girth/diameter/whatever you want to call it.

Anyway here's a gar photo dump. Also what's a group of gar called? It should be a gang.
