Yes for sure that smaller one is the female. My male spent hardly any time in the cave but patrolled the surrounding area. My pair dug a much deeper hole, and the eggs were placed right under a rock ledge at the bottom, with just room for the female to get under, not the male, though he somehow managed to fertilize them. I never saw the eggs or wrigglers, only the fry when they became free swimming - which took longer than I had expected actually. They spawned again but I am away at the moment so not sure what stage they are at now.
They spawned in the side of a rock as the only cave is a small pot that's big enough for the male. She ate the eggs yesterday. I have some small pots that are just big enough for her so I will try adding several of those.

That is a shame she ate them, but maybe they were too exposed? They do seem to be quite secretive about where they breed. its not really possible to tell from the photos I posted, bt the hole they dug under a rock is very deep, with the sand they removed they built up a steep "crater rim " all around it

They are doing well, mine are a little older and bigger , I have actually been away for a month leaving my husband in charge of all my tanks, so the little guys have probably not received the TLC they would have if I had been around (no live brine shrimps for example), but they seem to be doing OK. I tried to get some pictures but they wont stay still and can't get them in focus! Will attach the best of a bad lot (and I should have cleaned the front glass after water change yesterday...)! I seem to have 20-30 and may need to move them to a bigger tank soon..
