Guianacura sp.

I would say get them if you have the chance and have suitable space for them, but I think the bigger tank would be better. Attractive and confident cichlids.

I remember reading that, and seeing your pictures in another thread, but at least so far mine don't change their colour or pattern at all, except for the breeding female who goes darker with hints of additional stripes:

Picking them up tomorrow morning.

The male is already to go. Chasing and body shivers. She's not quite ready as she hasn't chosen a spot yet. She's not sure about Mary Jane either. MJ ain't to sure about them as she's already had her tail grabbed once!1000001675.jpg1000001678.jpg1000001679.jpg1000001683.jpg1000001681.jpg

They will probably start digging very soon! Hopefully the rocks are secure and won't collapse? I like the black chin on the female, mine don't have that...

Interesting. The smaller is the male according to the fellow I got them from.

Really? Well that is surprising!

Another interesting thing is that yours have the mid lateral stripe extending into the dorsal fin, but none of the illustrations in the diagram show this for any of the species..

But, I think he's wrong. I was looking at them and the larger has the typical male long dorsal and anal fins. The smaller has the typical female characteristics. Will know for sure once they spawn.

Well it will be interesting to find out for sure, from the video everything suggested to me that the small one was the the female, not only the size difference but also the behaviour and colouration. With mine the female becomes darker like that when breeding, while the male doesn't change colour that much. But strange you would think that the previous owner should know...
