i haven’t really checked on them too much, but there has been atleast one clutch of fry that were eaten. judging by the activity, a pair is gaurding another clutch at the corner of the tank.

Side note - the Jungle Val has really taken over. I plucked one tiny plant from my heated tank, and a year or two later its run rampant in this one! Shows the hardiness and adaptability of some aquatic plants!

Lol, I was just wondering about your outdoor Gymnos! My G.rhabdotus are at it again outdoors this summer as well. They are the best fish I have for outdoor tanks, and produce tons of fry with very little in the way of drama or difficulties.

My C.dimerus are back at it again as well, i.e. fighting constantly after co-existing peacefully all winter. The subdominant male is once again showing the same torn fins and tail that he did last year, although like last year he and his lady seem to be attempting to spawn. The other pair, like last year, has produced clutches (at least two that I have actually seen) but the eggs mysteriously vanish before hatching. I really hoped that they would mature and become better parents...fingers still crossed. Four adult fish in the 5-6 inch size range...two definite pairs...with no other tankmates in a 6-foot-diameter stock tank this year, plenty of structure and cover, and yet it is looking as though I may have to separate them again. :(

I have a spot kinda sorta set up on the back deck for a 70gallon all-glass tank, and a little breeding colony of something would really be nice to have there. Strictly a summer project, no way I can leave them out all year the way you do, but...c'est la vie.

Noob to the site here, flame away as needed.

Anyone have some terrapurpura they can stand to sell off? I'm looking to find a group of 3-6 for a 55g setup in my garage. This species seems to be a good size for the tank and can handle temperate/subtropical water temps. Haven't been able to find any through online retailers or local.

Welcome to the party, pal.

Where are you located... US east coast, west coast, Europe, Outer Mongolia, maybe down under?

Ha thats helpful! Well I have been considering outer Mongolia but haven't pulled the trigger yet. For now I can call coastal California home.

Tho I did just receive an email this AM from Imperial and they do have them! The page just wasn't updated.

On another note, what's a sensible number of 1-2" terrapurpura for a 54g corner tank?

My go to answer would be start with six and see what happens. You might have to rehome a few as they grow up until you get a harmonious group. I'd also suggest you make a new post with all your questions, sine you and I seem to be the only people responding to a three year post about Geophagus. 😎
