Too Much Weight?

Hello,

So I am having some issues that I would love some advice or experience. I have an 120 Panoramic Aquarium... It comes with a foam matt on the bottom. So the tank ended up cracking half way up the front panel. I reached out to the company and they stated Improperly used the tank. The rock which was river rock was too heavy and caused stress on the front panel which cracked it. My question is
1. I have used these rocks in probably 20 - 30 marineland and aqueon tanks and never had an issue. I raised this concern to the company and they stated I was just lucky. Has anyone else used river rocks like this and can chime in with if you had a negative experience?

2. If it was due to the weight, wouldn't the crack come from the bottom or the bottom corner up and not midway?

3. No rock fell and hit it, their was no impact zone on it. The rocks where stacked on eachother. The stand did not **** either. Everything was still level when I checked it all.

Really just feeling like this company is trying to avoid fault here.

Rock is heavier than water, with a specific weight of about 2.5, where as water is 1.0. But your tank is not totally filled with rock. So the increase in weight is not too significant.

But you say that it comes on a 'foam mat'. I don't think foam is sufficient to spread the weight of a tank. I prefer to use a sheet of rubber.

I think you just got sold a cheaply made tank, with no redundancy. It looks like the crack is in the stressed part of the curve.

However, I doubt you will get anything back from the vendor.

Well the water reduces the weight of the rock via buoyancy. Did you place something under the rocks? Egg crates or filter bag full of gravel. A layer of egg crates helps spread the weight.

It comes attached to the bottom of the tank from the manufacturer so I kind of thought it would be sufficient. When you say sheet of rubber do you mean like a thick pond liner? (Asking for future uses)

I’m no expert but I’m guessing curved glass would have very little tolerance for any warping or movement.
Yeah, I wish they would have send a warning of how much weight you can put in it then. Like I said I’ve used it before in marineland tanks and thought since this is supposedly one of those luxury higher end / thicker glass tanks it would have no problem.
