Everything you just said about them is true. Lovely fish if you can find them. Slow growers though.
They have a group of 5 at 3". Would you combine them with the Vieja from which I'd end up selecting a pair? So 8ft tank, 10 meeki, 5 O. Heterospila, pair of melanura as the final stocking?

Melanura are about same size currently, f2. EDIT: Not true, melanura are 4".

Personally I would advise against combining the hetrospila and the melanura. They are very similar and I could see problems once maturity sets in. I would go with one or the other.
You could add a group of thorichthys helleri or thorichthys passions to go with your Meeki. They can all be found in the same waters. I would also be tempted to add a large group of swordtails or sail fin mollies. These are also biotope correct.

Lovely, gonna go with the heterospila then, I like the idea of them staying slightly smaller and less aggressive. They're small so gonna take all 7 they have (5 at 3" and 2 at 3.5") in case I lose one or two somewhere along the line or can rehome 2 if needed. Think I'll just stay with one bigger group of Meeki instead of two different Thorichthys species.

Swordtails are definitely an option too. Don't like mollies. Was actually thinking about adding a group of astyanax mexicanus or a higher bodied tetra (diamonds for example) but if being biotope correct up to this point might as well go with the swordtails.

Sounds good to me. Reminds me of some of the set ups I’ve had in the past. I hope you enjoy the selection as much as I did.

I’ve got 10 that I’m growing out from TUIC. It’s the second time I’ve had them over the years and I forgot how painfully slow they grow. They’re a little over 14 months and the largest fish is around 5” with most being around 4-4.5”.

I also have a colony of 7 melanura from COTA in an 240g and while they’re a great looking fish they’re boring as hell. Zero personality.
