Nothing outlandish. Just proper care, good food too allow for healthy development over time. The genetic expression of the individual fish does the work for pearls and that.
So what to do feed now as it's too small to eat pellets . Is it fine to feed him tetra bits ? And later move on to pellets?
Everything Hybrid said. I noticed good quality and variety of foods brings out the fish's pearls. Most male FHs will eat anything once they get comfortable just don't over feed. Mirror training a few times a day helps too.
I used black sand before and feel with darker substrate/background their colors pop more. Light substrate they still look nice but sometimes colors don't pop or look as dark. I believe they try and adept to their surroundings to hide from bigger predators.
The black gravel should be fine. Personally now all I do is bare bottom tanks. It depends too how nice their colors will be based on diet/genes/clean warm tank. If you feed shrimp or prawns make sure to dice them up really good and not give small chunks because it will cause bloat and can ruin their digestive system. I only give once a week

If you got that from a breeder some where in Asia i would say Female as most breeders groom there FHs with mirrors and food to grow there KOK that fish has no KOK
