I am wanting either a 120Lx36Dx36H or 120Lx36Dx40H. Problem is I am not seeing many options for a tank with this length/height combo. Any recommendations on who to go with when going with a tank this tall? Along with if I should go glass or acrylic?

Whereabouts do you live?
If in the US fish tanks direct in Florida made my 10x3x2.5 560 gal acrylic tank. They have a custom tank calculator on their site & ship nationwide. 36-40” tall would be very difficult to scape and clean. I would recommend 40”D if you have the space and 30”T but that’s just me.
A glass tank that size would be crazy heavy, and once scratched cannot be resurfaced like an acrylic can.

Fishtanksdirect has the 120Lx36Dx36H. I would do acrylic. All my tanks are acrylic from fishtanksdirect, including my 750gal 120" x 48" x 30".

I had fishtankcsdirect build me a 10' x 4' x 30" tank and a wet dry and also a 50 gallon auto top off tank for me
I would stick with acrylic just for the weight of it . mine just took 4 guys to move it around.
is your tank going to be freshwater or salt, I might want to sell my tank with my fish it is freshwater

Just wondering if you guys have large plecos in your acrylic tanks. Some years ago on this site several members were reporting that their Royal plecos clouded the acrylic from the inside, which always made me lean towards glass. Any experience with that?

thanks

I heard the same thing about plecos so I never put them in any of my three acrylic tanks because of that reason.

I happen to have glasscages pulled up right now researching a purchase...

A glass 673 gal... 12" Long, 36" deep, 36" tall is $9,050
That's the basic box. Add more for low iron glass, lids, drilled, etc, etc as desired.
They don't list any glass aquariums over 36" tall.
Estimated empty aquarium weight 1,210 lbs. Good luck...

In acrylic they stop listing them at 96"
449 gallons, 96" long x 30" deep x 36" tall, is the largest the list at $14,612
again, customizations go up from there.

As always, once in place, I think glass is better. But getting a glass box that big in place may prove so impractical it's not an option.

Of course you are right, big glass tanks are undoubtedly heavier and more difficult to move.

But when you reach a certain size with any tank, acrylic or glass, that moving requires special equipment to maneuver, it doesn't really make any difference imo. You're still gonna have to rent pallet jacks, dolly lifts, etc to do it whether it's the 12'x3'x3' glass or the 96x30x36 acrylic.

Personally, with one good helper and two pallet jacks, or just me and a forklift, I could move either of those tanks with similar effort. So no reason to go with one or the other imo based on weight--they're both friggin heavy.

I don't mate. I don't even have them in my glass tanks. I'm just not a pleco fan at all. They get lazy on the algae once they figure out the feeding pattern of the tank & just add unnecessary bio-load.
