hi all, sorry if this is the wrong section for this.
anyways i have a 10 gal tank thats cycling right now. have 2 peices of drift wood alot of plants and a clay pot in the tank, have a 14 hour light period and am just waiting for the cycle..

1. well my question is i know the tank is somewhatt on the small side, but does this seem acceptible for breeding these beautiful fish? i am juust doing it for fun and cause i enjoy breeding fish(not for money)

2.do i need some darter fish? (if was a bigger tank id say def but what do you think?)

3. whats the best way to go about getting the pair; just buying a male and female, or somthing else?

Anyone have personal experiance or tips. thanks for all the help

I would say this is too small they can get like 3-4". I have never tried to breed them but I have kept 2 in my 55 gallon before. One of them became very dominant/territorial an did not like the others presence of the other fish(I dont know what sex they were). Unless you buy a proven breeding pair. I think you need to buy a larger group an allow them to pair up on there own. good luck

thanks for your advice mike not downplaying your oppinion at all but anyone else have more advice, whether they agree or disagree with him?? again thanks very much.

worst come to worst, anyone have any ideas of fish id be able to keep and breed (without removing eggs or perents/ no livebearers) in this 10 gal tank??

convicts but i would say get a 20 gallon for your kribs

I've heard of people breeding kribs in a 10, but have no experience myself.
For other fish options, there are some shell dwellers that are ok in a 10.
I think the other fish you are asking about is badis badis

thanks, anyone else? maybe ill try the kribs and if its really bad or one fish is getting attacked bad i can always bring them back, i hate doing that but i have read about many people keeping them in a 10 gal

...or Dario dario. Both cool fish that would do just fine in a 10.

I think a 10 could work, but may be a little tight. My Krib pair is in a 20l and that seems to work very well. If you were going to put them in 10 that you have i would add more hiding spots in case the male and female get agressive towards each other.

As far as getting a pair: What i did was when my lfs had about 30 in a tank you will notice a dominant male and a female. Look for a agressive male showing more color then the rest and a big bright red belly on a female.
