I do not understand the walls. I plan on doing the same thing expect more narrow like a 8'x5' so for the walls how thick of wood did you use in the end?

For the walls we stacked 2x4s one on top of each other. A 2x4 is only really 3.5" wide, so we have a 3.5" stack of wood for each wall and then on top of that is 1/2" of plywood screwed into the 2x4s. So in the end the walls are 4" thick of wood.

Crikey!! Those walls should be VERY strong... Can't imagine how many screws you went through... Gives me an idea though.. I have a lodge themed basement, wonder if I could DIY a tank to look like a log house? hmmmmm

If i do a2x4 with 1/2" plywood screwed in for my 8'x5' would that be fine? Sorry not trying to hyjack your thread your basicly the only person i know to get help on this topic with. And it won't be 100% plywood am using a liner to hold the water in (no viewing window)

Yeah you would be fine if you did it that way, but if your just doing a liner you don't need to build it anywhere near as strong as we did. The reason we stacked 2x4s is because with resin and epoxy paint it can crack if the wall flexes much when you fill it.

I have another pond, 6'x10'x4' that is just a liner without windows. On this one we just did 2x4 frames for all the walls and screwed plywood into the frame. I took a few pictures of it so you could see what I am talking about. The frame on it was done with 4x4s in the corners and the half way point of each wall, 2x4s for the rest. The floor frame was constructed with all 2x4s, similar to the initial floor frame on the 10'x14'. Its been up and running for about 8 months now without issue.

If your just doing a liner you will save yourself a fortune in wood and alot of time by doing it this way instead of stacking 2x4s.
