thanks! the 50g is full of water with my traditional black gravel lol.
I am going to have to splurge and buy a double flourescent T8 strip light for that tank, because a single strip (either t8 or double t5) is not bright enough. its way too dark.
the double t5 is bright but way too narrow on a tank that wide..so it still ends up looking dark.
thats one thing with a black substrate - you need at least 50% more light than normal as it reflects almost nothing back up..

thanks, I had to keep the black gravel thing going. I like a dark substrate, but really didn't want sand (sand and AquaClears do not mix).
so going with the coated Estes black special gravel was my only option.

no problem. I will try and post some pics tonight.
bad news update: the new 50g has a big chip in the side of it that didn't 'pop out' and become noticable until I filled it with water..luckily it didn't leak, tank is drained, I have contacted the LFS for a new one. the peice is still attached to the tank as you can see in the pic.
so this project will be pushed back a week or two..
