wow. it took me 3 days to read this whole thread. you have some amazing tanks. i thoroughly enjoyed seeing your journey through your 150g tank and i look forward to seeing whats to come.

thanks very much everyone. its been a long journey to get where I am at today, with basically 3 different 'eras' of the 150g tank, but its far from over.

Question...How much food do you think your fish will consume in one feeding when they are at their adult size? Will you buy food in bulk?
Also what are you feeding?
I ask because I currently have 3 tanks running, a 90 g w/10 Burundi fronts from 3-5", 55 g w/ at leas 50 or so mbuna from 1-6" (I can't get a definite count and they keep breeding), and a 38 g w/6 SD's all of which are about 3". I go through a large can of Tetramin flake every few weeks. I am just curious if I am going through an abnormally high amount of food. But I will sit and throw food in until the fish lose interest in eating.

I used to buy the Tetra Cichlid sticks that I feed in 3 pound boxes, but they are no longer available in bulk, I have to buy the large cans instead, which kind of sucks because it was cheaper to buy it in the 3 pound boxes by far.
however, my LFS during boxing week always has fish food 50% off all week.
so in the past I will buy 4 or 5 large cans of tetra colour bits, 2 cans of wardley shrimp pellets etc etc. all at once.
so I might spend $150 but I get $300 worth of food which pretty much lasts me the whole year. I will do the same this year.
as far as feeding goes, I only feed until they are visibly full. there should be a bulge in the belly.
you should be able to look at the fish and tell that it just ate. thats enough.
any more and you create more headaches with water quality issues and go through food quicker than you really need to.

thanks all. I moved out the 'runt' lemonfin yesterday to be sold to the LFS. I hated doing it but I will not have the room for 5 of them plus the others.
I am going to try for 4 lemonfins, 2 tinfoils and 3 redhooks..
even then down the road I may have to sell one more lemon fin depending on how large they really get.
in my old 90, there was almost no competition for food, so the lemons got massive.
not so in this tank. there is a lot more fish in this tank so I am not expecting them to get quite as large. but time will tell...
