150 Gallon Wild Discus tank thread

Well it’s a 150 gallon deep tank. I believe it’s 30 inches deep. Haven’t figured out what days I’ll be getting yet. Open for advice though. Once I get the tank fully Aquascaped I’ll have a better idea if there will be room for the rays. I need to let the sveni grow a bit more first as well before adding any rays.
Great setup and amazing stock. You might be pushing the bio limits if adding a Ray since you’re pretty full. I would recommend a hystrix if you can find one. Not overly aggressive feeders which could be a great thing since I’ve had rays eat altums and geos.

I’d get some metro and prazi in case you have to treat the wilds. I’ve always done a treatment when getting wilds in since the stress of transport can make them weak enough to have issues.

I personally would not do rays in that small of a tank. The width of the tank is ok, but the overall footprint isnt ideal I don't think. I personally would do some nice plecos and or geos.

Cant wait to see the wild discus. Wilds are better than most of the created ones I think.
Ya I’m starting to think the same thing now. I have And LDA07 pleco in there along with l160 and an L14. Probably going to pass on the rays. And than there will be of course the sveni and than a small group of red head tapajos.

That sounds good, I would skip the rays as well :)

Make sure you get some dither fish as well as it can really round off a SA tank. Mix the sizes a bit but keep good sized schools Bleeding Hearts make an impressive school and Hemiodus are a bit different to other characins. Headstanders are quite interesting and some species are really striking! And a bit enough school of a 'standard' Tetra like Lemons, Rosies or Flames always look incredible!

i have an good size group of cardinal tetras coming in :)

Did you pick these discus up? How do they look?
They got pushed back for Tuesday deleogwrh since we got historically bad snow this weekend in Minnesota so fish will be shipped out Monday for Tuesday delivery. I’ll have to quarantine them for 2 to 3 weeks first as well before adding to the show tank but will still show some pics of them in quarantine. The wait is killing me haha

Actually don’t think I’ll need to quarantine these fish since the sveni that are in the main tank have already been quarantined and are healthy so should be able to add them right to the main tank

These are wild discus aren't they?
With wilds need to be concerned with internal and external parasites.
Do you have a UV sterilizer on tank-if so,the external parasites are not such a concern.
But, I would proactively treat for internal parasites both with praziquantel and either levamisole or flubendazole in case of worms or nematodes present.

Yep going to to quarantine them since I have a group of cardinal tetras coming with them from the same supplier but will put those in the main show tank and then quarantine the wilds for a good month or maybe more and will treat if any signs shownof parasites. Not going to treat them unless I need to. I’m getting them from a very reputable source and am doing exactly as he says for these fish. He says to quarantine for about a month, get the quarantine tank to cycle a few times so there’s no incompatible bacteria and wait to add fish to main show tank until they’re consistently eating for a few weeks. I may do a treatment after a few weeks after they get settled in to their quarantine tank more just to make sure they don’t have parasites but we will see. The cupieau royals aren’t labeled as wilds so I’ll have to ask him if they actually are wild discus for sure or not. The iripixi also aren’t labeled as actual wilds either. These are just wild strains so could’ve been tank bred. They’re jack Wattley discus so am guessing they’re tank bred discus
