I hope your prepared for what is needed to take care of those RTC's in the future...Currently Necro and I can attest to $50+ per week (and growing)food bills just for our cats and you can see the size of tank which is needed to keep them once they outgrow the "cute" stagevexproductions;2690993; said:All I say is wow dude u got me 100% hooked I love cat fish I have 4 rt's myself all I can say is I wish u the best of luck it looks great so far

The Length is fine but I'd lower the tank abit and try to make it wider as a 4' RTC (should you be lucky enough to have them get that big) will not be happy trying to turn around in a 3.5' spacevexproductions;2691308; said:O ya datz no problem I am going to start the new home for my rtc and pacus this spring I hope it will b around 16ft long 3.5ft width n 5ft tall but dat is jus rough plans for now . Any help will be yours just ask I can also run it by my father who has owned a HVAC (Plus sheet metal) Business 20 years and worked in it his whole life (My grandfather started this family affair in 1948 ! . He's done green rooms and indoor pond ventilation before as have I. I grew up in the shop lolnecrocanis;2693651; said:Hey guys and gals. Thanks for Keeping things on the up and up in here. I love all the positive feedback it really fuels my fire to finish. As for tank size for big cats. I don't wish this build to be the say all and end all for big cat housing, but for me it works, and you should build your tank to the dimensions that you have available to you. Just remember that catfish need turning room, and when you have a tank that size there's no way you are going to stay within the reccomended stocking levels. I can garuntee that this tank will have a massive bioload. By the time it's finished there will be at least 100 lbs of fish going in. I plan on doing it over time more than likely. I'll put the smallest ones in first, and add the others over time. Nothing under the 2'ish mark will go into this tank due to the size of tankmates. Main reason being that no matter how long the fish are in with them rtc will eventually try to eat anything that can fit into their mouths. Prime example is my black bullhead is finally gone after spending nearly a year with my rtc with no problems. the bullhead was 14" and gorgeous, but the rtc was 28" and hungry.
Im looking up some moisture sensing fans and it seems the lot of them tend to be made for crawlspaces. That would make it pretty loud. A shower fan would be as low as 1 sone which is almost undetectable while moving 100 or so CFM's of air.
For tcarswell.
Glad to see that your whole family is taking an liking to my build. Sorry I couldn't get this done a little quicker, but I'm doing it throughout on this site so that everyone can see what kind of work and commitement is involved. I might need your help in the future for planning out a small ventilation unit to go on the tank as it will be completely sealed for the most part. I need a small vent to go through the roof of the garage or out a window. The fan only needs to kick on I would think once the moisture gets above a certain level in the exaust tube. Let me know what you think ok? I've heard there's a moisture sensing fan that will do the job, but I'm clueless here!
