Naw, it's a different type of wax that is mix with gelcoat for a nice smooth finished. The wax you are referring to is applied to the mold for easy removal of a part, which is called a mold-release wax.zennzzo;2377793; said:Me too, and i wonder if he is refering to the wax in some gel-coats that is there for a releasing agent...Normally Gel-coat is the first/color coat when you use a mold to laminate...
Yes, you're right gelcoat patch aid does have wax mixed with it. That's what we paint our bilge inside our boat hauls.necrocanis;2377993; said:Yeah they were telling me that I should get one of the 5 gal buckets with the wax for the last coat so that it would lay down better and dry more evenly. I did get an additive seperate that is supposed to help the top coat cure more evenly, and more quickly. Plus it will dry tack-free, without the wax additive it won't cure right is what I'm being told. I think the other product is called gelcoat patch aid.
Absolutely necessary for rolling the glass into the laminate...this way there is no air trapped in the resin, and the corners will be tight and smooth...necrocanis;2379374; said:Is it completely nescessary? Maybe I'll try to find them locally, but haven't seen anything like it yet. Neat though.
