you should never saturate fiberglass. because in years to come you will end up with blisters . known to people who build boats as osmosis then it will start to leak.. and you dont want that..

Totally different technology from where I learned...the company I got my basics from was Westport Yachts, http://www.westportyachts.com/
We built 98' to 164' motor yachts, We did alot of compound angled parts using core-bond and vacuum bag installation...We are talking large integeral parts that give the hull it's strength...A vacuum bag insures that the glass is totally saturated in the resin and corebond into the cuts of the core...

I can see osmosis happening if the glass was Not saturated and blistering is usually a product of delamination because of surfaces not being properly preped from the waxes and dirt.

Not too sure why Necro wouldn't want to put a primer coat of resin in the corners and joints, let cure, sand and clean with Acetone, Then Laminate with saturated Roving...

That's how I would start the lay-up...

HAH! So you don't use a roller after all! :nilly:

Just being a pest. I'm with zennz on this one, blistering is delamination caused by inadequate bonding between the layers, and subsequent flexing of the structure (from wave jumping or whatever). "saturating" means that there are no air bubbles and no glass fibers that haven't been touched by the polyester. Bagging it makes sure it's saturated, and that you suck out the excess resin so you don't wind up with a heavy structure. Using too much resin is not conducive to a light, flexible structure, but light and flexible aren't really what he cares about here.

OK you got me...

I have never seen, nor used a roller in my life,

or

have I ever had glass and resin on parts of my body that I could never figure out how it got there, and why...

OR

had AAP (acute acetone poisoning)...

BUT!...

I did stay at a "Holiday Inn Express" a couple of times...
:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

If I still lived in Washington I could get some 1/4" Foam Core and laminate up a 50 gallon sump...no screws, no wood, no magic!
That would blow some minds...huh?
