Got the filtration up and added some k3 from
My other sump and 4 cubic feet of media. The fish seem in a bit of shock and arent eating yet. Parameters are fine. Have two arowana, 3 tinfoil barbs and a TSN.

going to do a three barrel system but for now till i move the 265 it’s a one barrel

Great job. Excited for yah!

If your aim is to have the pond never leak in your lifetime, I'd personally wouldn't place spiny (and toothy) fish in there, such as the TSN. Russ, what'd you say? wednesday13 wednesday13 Unlikely I know, this is no vinyl liner, but if the goal is ultimate, the risks must be ultimately eliminated, no?

IDK the long term plan but the TSN will of course hunt the barbs too.

Never had any problems with my cats/TSN and liners… Not any issues with armored cats even. I had 17 TSN 24”-34” in an intex pool with an additional 45mil EPDM for a cple yrs trouble free. Those same cats did poke right through the stock vinyl liner tho in about a week. I would say theres no risk of a cat arm going through if there was no insulation behind the liner and zero folds/creases anywhere, but there is always a chance.

IME things like rocks, deco and even submersible pumps can be just as detrimental or more so than some fish. Good thing about liners is there fairly affordable and easily swapped out worse case scenario if u can’t find the leaks to patch. Nothing lasts forever lol… glass, concrete, acrylic etc… all have their issues. Normal “human” pools with liners are replaced every so often just the same. All part of the game we play 🤷🏻‍♂️💀

Awesome thanks so much for the help and advice.
The TSN will be the only catfish in there. I have some gars i was thinking of adding and maybe a gator gar to grow out before the mega tank is done.

what are your thoughts on 3/8” pea gravel in the bottom? I’m looking for a way to get the fish to pop more against the black bottom

50/50 as always with substrate… my 650g liner tank has been up since 2009 (knock on wood) with smooth river rock. I do worry a bit about it tho. The down side of any substrate would b not being able to find any leaks if they do happen. Id def. Go with smooth/polished rocks over reg pea gravel. U can prob do underlayment also and run just about anything that way. I had a leak in a 1700 liner tank from a submersible pump sitting right on the liner one time. Easy fix with seam tape but it did happen. Ive see. People run tile bottoms that worked well to show off the fish better. Same thing tho id prob use underlayment fabric just to be safe. Didn’t worry as much yrs ago with my liner tanks but these days i try to be overly cautious as i don’t have the time i once did for even minor repairs.

Heres whats in my 650 💀🤙, been ok being moved around by the fish over the yrs so far. Even being “polished” there are a few questionable pieces i worry about lol…

Really tempting fate here !

My indoor liner pond made with a standard thickness butyl has gravel floor, although the floor has a pvc liner under the gravel too. Over the past 11 years it’s always had girraffe cats of some sort or koi to “keep it moving”.

It’s also had me walking bare foot on it and on one occassion falling in fully dressed on it, along with numerous potted cactus.
I have huge tree bog wood (old tree roots) and large pipes and rock structures for the fish.

Currently it has granulosus cat, TSN cat, various hemibagrus cats, jelly cat, armoured girraffe cat and marmoratus cat, most around 18” (some smaller, some bigger) all bustling between the pvc and butyl where the bottom turns to sides.

if it’s butyl liner I would have no issues gravelling the bottom (although I would recommend koi or girraffe to turn it over) and I certainly wouldn’t worry about the TSN or gars, but that’s me.

if it’s pvc, different story, I find over time that goes brittle and wouldn’t last 10 years before being split with or without gravel or decor.

Thanks Fishman Dave! I’m not one to tempt fate for sure. Its an EPMD (sp?) 45 mil lIner minght get a 20 mil blue pvc liner to add to the bottom but not a decision i’m in a rush to make. Debating taking the net off for lids and still need to get the pond camera.

might add a vivo home pond pump with UV on a 2000 gph pump but that’s also an idea i’m not 100% sold on

Was going to mention a colored vinyl or pvc liner over top 💀🤙… prob the easiest and “safest” way to brighten it up. If u do some digging online theres a place that makes vinyl liners cut and welded into the box shape u can drop right in. Once the fish get bigger theres no missing them tho also lol… that TSN will come up and b waiting for u at the surface 24:7
