ok so a 180 for a fire eel alone then if you want tank mates your looking at a 200 plus gallon tank!!!

Both, really. A large eel would have trouble moving around in a tank with > a 24" width, and the larger volume of water would also help you handle the bio load.
Well imo, you could get away with just a 180 gallon for your current stock as long as you are able to keep up with maintenance and can keep your water parameters stable, but like I said before, larger would be better.
