If it were me since you have no cycle started and no fish in there. I would use bleach to kill the bugs. Any med you put in there will kill the bio-bacteria once you try to start that. So with bleach you can do a 90-100% water change after a few days and add double the amount of antichlorine and be 100% safe to start the cycle process. I would use 1 cup bleach per gallon of water and run the tank for 2 days. Then do a large WC and go for it. The bleach will not hurt any of your decorations etheir. Unless that sand is the fake kind that is dyed.
agreed. Good idea hybridtheory
Great job so far man it looks absolutely stunning

Looks good, I am trying to do something similar at half that size and am just waiting for my fiance to lose it on me.

I think showing her your project might help her relax, it really is that nice looking without any fish in it.

It does look good with no fish...its like it has movement in it with the bubbles and shimmer from the lights....but no fish...yet. and yes...its killing me not to do a fish cycle so I can at least see some fish fish. My wife is not really a fish person...she knows i love it tho...and today she surprised me by saying (unprompted) that the sand really looks good....so thats major WAF lol

I think I am going to order some fish too (ill look at the LFS but I dont have much hope)...some yellow labs and acei....maybe like 5 of each 3". The safestart stuff I have read about tonight claims you can add fish like the same day or the next day.

Thoughts?

IDK about the tetra stuff...However i have used with great success a product by Seachem called Stability. You can buy it at petsmart. I have used it a few times and it works very well! The first and second times i used it i put fish in within 24 hours closer to like 6 hours and the levels were already looking good and the fish did and are doing very well! Its super easy to use, u basically just do a dose of this stuff every day for 1 week and the fish can be added at any point during the process as long as u continue to add it daily.

I would definately pick it up and try it out. Again the stuff i use is by Seachem and its called Stability!

I had read about that stuff too. The tetra stuff is the same as the bio-spira stuff that I have always heard good things about. I'll try one of them thats for sure...im sick of waiting and I have always wanted to try that stuff.lol.

I have been waiting longer than you can imagine! I had a custom 280 (6x3x2)I was going to set up as a reef...I was going to move my 110 reef into it. Katrina came along and killed my 110 and there my 280 sat dry as a bone since day one. So I have not had a fish tank since Katrina...and since then I have had a empty tank to look at weather it was the 280 or now this 240. So it has been several years!

Wow, I would have never made it. I had a hard enough time waiting to put fish in my 300 and that was only about 6 - 8 weeks from the time I ordered it until it had fish in it.
