250 ish Ply Build

Nice work. Looks great. I have been contemplating a styrofoam addition to my 240 as well. Thinking of something that will be like branches across the entire tank using the cross braces to hold it down.

Looking forward to seeing how yours comes out, looks like it will be very nice.

So you had no issues with getting the glass to seal to the zavlar using that 5300? I have my 300ish gal sitting in the garage waiting for a method of sealing it. Also I am wondering if you used anything to stiffen up the seams of the plywood? Something like mesh drywall tape/fiberglass.

Great build!

Can't believe I never saw this build until now, great job. One question though what did the pH end up stabilizing at? Was looking at the msds for zavlar and noticed it was an alkali so I'm starting to have second thoughts of using it for my pike cichlid tank that's in the works. Glad to hear there's a decent bonding agent to use with it however.

they can only look down on you if your looking at them

Yea the tank is fine no issues. My aro is pushing 17" now and looking really good. I did scrap the styrofoam project for now. It was turning out to be alot bigger and clunkier "for lack of a better word" than I wanted. I did end up replacing my pump with a proper pond pump. Tried to save a few bucks and that didn't work out. The only other small issue I've had is keeping the water temp down, the pump creates a fair amount of heat and I had made the lid very sealed because of the aro and to reduce condensation but I think I'm going to end up revamping it with some kind of vents.

To answer an earlier question the interior of the tank has a single layer of fibreglass cloth over it's entire surface and in the corners there are three. Prolly overkill but I had the material on hand. The ph is still a little on the high side, think I should have exercised a it more patience in the beginning and done a couple more complete flushes before adding the stock but the fish have thrived regardless. I have been wandering the shores of Lake Superior looking for the perfect piece of driftwood to help in that department.
