I did mine like yours. I have holes on both sides 45 degrees pointing down.

Your 3/4 hp pump is going to be an overkill, but as long as you do your math, it will be ok. It is going to consume more power than I think you really want, and the extra flow will really have little benefit. However, by having the UGF on a timer, you will end up with a bacteria colony that will thrive both aerobically and anaerobically.

That's why I only want to run it twice per day. Would it increase my power bill that much to run it two hours per day? Yeah, I've got a ton of math in store with this project. I need to figure up exactly what the gph, and gpm are on the 3/4 hp to see if I am even going to use it or not. It was a salvage out of an old jacuzzi I removed from the inlaws house. It's barely been used in the 12 years they've had it. Being old I kind of figure that it's not very energy efficient.

If I can get the flow right in the ugf I'll be set. I just don't want it to throw rocks as shrapnal at the fish lol.

I saw that pump in your other thread last night. My brain had already gone to bed so I wasn't able to reply. The pump isn't a Jacuzzi brand pump. The tooling says Sta-rite Industries all over it. To find out the flow rate, etc, you will really need to get the model number off of the impeller. The large silver tag on the motor is for just the motor, not the pump. I think it was an A. O. Smith motor. The energy efficient models have their capacitor on the top/side like yours. I'll go looking for your thread and post the info there.

thanks for sharing your project,I could use a handy guy like you around here:}

Johnptc would be jealous. :D I'm surprised that you don't have a California address and your fish in his tanks. :naughty:

Thanks I'll try to see if I can model number off the impeller. Kinda curious to see what's inside anyway.

Nothing to really see. Just a closed face impeller behind a plastic diffuser. And two o-rings.

yeah, I figured that out lol. Here's the part number I got PE XD-124UL I've looked it up and I can't really find any info on the GPH, but I am going to email a rep. to see what they can tell me about it. DId however find a maintenance manual.

hey Chompers
how is your UGJ system working out? reason im asking is,
im wanting to build something like yours. i have a bottom layer of gravel and top layer of sand it is around 2 1/2" deep and i have no rocks just drift wood. here is where i have the problem. the wood sheds and leaves small paticals in the bottom of the tank. the fish espcl. the big plec's stir this up. and i would like to float it out to my sump to catch.
you have any detailed pic' on the hole angels i can look at form your pic's the look like they are horizontal?
anyway thanks for the post and any help i can get
