27 Pictus catfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My six 8"-10"-ers swim and play around all the time in 4500 gal. Perhaps it's the tank size and the set up.

I realize you don't dig the looks of my tank, which may be just a matter of taste / aesthetics or something more. In any case, this is just to prove that mine swim and appear happy:

June 14 2017 update on the pictus. Last time when I had to move them into another 240 gal I counted 26, so roughly all were accounted for. I could easily lose count too. Had to use wife's pasta strainer to catch them.

Lots more tank mates in this tank:

Been over two years ago... Wow... Poor pictus have been preyed on by the growout tigs and juruense. I estimate about 5-8 lost to that. They are impossible to count to take note of the disappearances... At some point a year or two ago I added 6 more pictus, so we are at around 20-22 fish.

A video update on the pictus gang and their current tank mates:

Around 20 pictus remain. And they still remain some of my all time favorites for their hyper strung nature, perpetual (com)motion, and funny antics.

20:20 - 22:30 minutes:

Here one that died of some unknown illness. I don't recall if I lost others to illnesses through the years. Perhaps one or two at most. I used to think pictus don't exceed 5"-6" but this one, apparently of the larger-growing Colombian variety, if it had its tail fin intact would have been around 8":
