300 gallon poly tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Haha more like a pre-schooler on crack.

I'll try and get a pic of the koloton and f lap together but yup f lap is catching up. Koloton really slowed down and is eating much less.

I would say hes 15ish maybe more. Hes an odd duck... would rather eat pellets over chopped fish and will often miss out on 1 or two feedings. Plus ive never reallu did the power feeding thing....slow and steady wins imo.

Hard to measure because he likes to perch on the returns.

Ha lol. He looks amazing. How big was he when you first got him? Without power feeding how long did he roughly take to reach that size? I have three of these guys swimming around now and three Senegals. Did your Ornate have external gills still when you first got him?

He was maybe 5 inches and real skinny i think we had him for almost 3 yrs. I dont remember about the external gills. I'd imagine if i catered to his needs (more pellets) he'd be bigger....but i dont do that lol u dont like whats on the menu dont eat lol

I have noticed mine seem to hide alot. They love my cave's that I originally bought for the cichlids. The Senegal's on the other hand are all over the place going nuts. Guess I better stop buying Bichir's and settle in for the long grow out period ha. Any idea's when (at what size or age) Ornate's or Bichirs in general lose their external gills?

Hes always been very active and kind of a jerk soo keep an eye on yours as it grows. He has a major problem with smaller poly. Killed a gold dust, beat my sen up a few times, tore up my f lap and thats what i can remember lol.

The gills will eventually disappear

Thanks mate. Yeah I will keep an eye on the Ornates as they grow but the Senegal's are quite a bit larger at this stage so I'm not too concerned about the sens being hurt by the ornates. The ornates don't come out anywhere near as much as the sens except one tiny ornate who goes nuts around the tank sometimes. But anyways loving your Bichir updates. You have some good looking fish :)

Love this fish!

Shes getting soo thick. Such a cool thing to see a fish you raised from smaller sizes start to get massive
