I started my 29 G with a thick layer of pea gravel, I ended up removing 70% of it. I could not believe the amount of poo the rocks held, when I vacuumed. This view gives you a better understanding of how little rock is in there but from the viewing panels it looks like a lot

I'm rescaping to a more natural gravel/sand mix just had to source some big pieces of wood that would fit the vision I had in mind for the new scapeAre you keeping it bare bottom/minimal Aqua scape? Or rescaping?
@cigars thanks my friend, I love the black mohawk and personality lol bites my fingers upon feedings.tcav88 I am really digging the mono sexy 2 tone.
I didn't know there would be that much debris from the wood and feedings under the rocks, and although it didn't alter my water quality too much I'd rather keep it the cleanest I possibly can for these cichla at adult size and sand is definitely the way to go as well as the pothos I'm gonna use as top water cover that remove nitrates as well.I started my 29 G with a thick layer of pea gravel, I ended up removing 70% of it.
