55g Community tank "Centerpiece fish".

Not too sure on acaras. I know even as adults rainbows can be difficult.
For both, males will have longer, pointier fins while females have shorter, rounded fins.

The best way to sex Electric Blue Acara is to vent them. I had a pair and the male and female looked like twins lol. I lucked out because they paired up at the lfs and had the other Acara in the upper corner of the aquarium that they were in.

Since you are not set on any one direction, it may be wise to check your tap water parameters.
They are easily found on most cities water dept web sites, if you are on a municipal system.
Success long term is often about matching your water with fish that are adapted to it.
Soft low pH (below 7), low mineral content water is usually perfect for Amazonian fish like cardinals, and certain soft water cichlids.
Hard, high pH water (above 7) works for Central American, and African Rift lake species.
If your water is neutral pH 7, not hard, not soft, most average LFS stock will work .
When you deviate with fish species that are evolved to live in extremes of either, long term chronic problem can result, making fish keeping less than a pleasant experience. Doing a little pre planning research about a fish you are considering can go a long way toward success.
The lack of which, is probably why one sees so many people selling tanks on Craigs list, or simply putting tanks for free on the roadside

I plan on at least having a small school of cardinal tetras and maybe some kuhli loaches would those little fellas do fine with them. Cause I know that certain cichlids are bottom dwellers and might try to run the kuhlis off. (also they look great).
Can't vouch for the kuhlis as I've never kept them, but my rainbow cichlids are housed with angelfish, swordtails, SAE's, and some leftover black neons and cardinal tetras. All live together just fine. The cichlids will chase away anyone from their fry but never do any damage. Keep in mind electric blue acaras get much larger than rainbow cichlids. Not sure how a large one would do with cardinal tetras.

Since it is going to be a community tank I assume I will need a quarantine tank. What size tank would yall recemound and what else would you need for the quarantine tank in terms of equipment.

Electric blue acaras or keyholes are both mid-size peaceful cichlids. The keyholes aren’t that colorful, but they have a nice bold pattern.

Would blue acaras Do fine in a 30 gallon for a few months and if so Just 1 or a pair. (Going to have a 30 gallon at my school and plan on moving to to the aquarium at my house at the end of the school year)
