Congrats on the wolf eating pellets!
Awesome tanks. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! Appreciate the kind words.

My plan is to use this thread to chronicle these two setups over time as I did with my initial build thread on my 600. Would love feedback or input along the way as it’s my first time keeping umbees. Would love to hear of any experiences you may have with this species being kept with other cichlids. I know that Guapote Mel has his pair with a ton of Andinoacara Stalsbergi in his 1000 gallon. Would love to know/hear about any others.
Are you saying that Guapote Mel has a pair of Umbees and Andinocara Stalsbergi in his 1000 gallon tank? That is two of my favorite cichlids... I hope that you can make Festae and Umbee work, I would love to see that work and hope that you keep us posted. I have a 360 gallon tank, I would love to do something like that, but I am affraid that I would get so attach to the cichlids and as they grow all of a sudden they would let me down and I would have to move them. My favorite cichlid is the Umbee, Grammodes, Festae, Stalsbergi, Ornatum, Escondido, True Parrot, and Red Jewel, to name a few... Lol...

He had a whole school of Stalsbergi in with his umbees along with a large freddy. Not much of a scape in there so few territory markers but he made it work.

I’m only trying it with the hopes that 600 gallons is enough. Wish me luck. :)

Oh ok, I know at one time he had a pair of Umbees and a pair of Festaes in his 1000 gallon tank, it worked for a little while until one day he came home and found, the male almost dead, he came home just in time to move him out to another tank, so that he could nurse him back into shape... Both pairs were gorgeous... I was hoping for his sake, that it worked.

I hope yours work, if so I may get enough guts to try some Stalsbergi and Festaes in my 360 gallon tank :) I would like to try the Umbee, but 360 gallons it too small for that...

I think your tank is fine for a pair from what everyone else keeps theirs in. Most use 180’s and will tell others that they need a minimum 300. Lol

Thanks for the well wishes. I don’t think it’ll work unless I can source festae that are much larger than the umbee. Given what they are doing to their cichlid tankmates. I think it’ll come down to a pair of umbee when all is said and done.
