I had piranha in the tank and the glass needed a real good cleaning with a razor blade so I used clove oil to knock them out and move them to an empty 55 I had just recently cleaned out. Well I siphoned out the water from the 600 straight to the 55 and put the P's in there. it took about 10 min and the P's came to then the next day they were all dead. The convicts and pleco I moved out of the 600 into an empty 35 were still alive then it hit me. I just recently soaked the sand that was in the 55 with bleach to kill all the MTS I had in there and never rinsed out the tank. I didn't use dechlor because the water was right from the 600. A horrible and stupid mistake to say the least. The reason for getting rid of the sump was because I was tired of it, the noise and the mold behind it from the evap.

Hey man, great build with lots of great info!!! Sorry to hear about the fish... but I have a few questions about your setup if you don't mind. My first question is about your most recent picture... in the first few pictures of the tank the background was black from the dry Epoxy, but in your most recent picture it was blue, what did you change??? Also, you said you are switching from the sump to an FX5, will that be enough filtration for a 600 gallon tank? The reason I ask is that I'm currently planning a 300 gallon plywood tank build and I'm looking for epoxy coatings (while taking into consideration the interior color of the tank) and filtration setups. I've heard a sump is the only way to go with larger tanks, but would one (or two) FX5's be sufficient for 300 gallons? Sorry for all the questions, I was just hoping to pick your brain. Thanks!

oh man...sorry to hear about the lost... still, didn't have to move the ps out!? they would have hide the hole while you were in there. was it the reason why you pulled them out? or you wanted to clean the tank while emptyed. nywaz, sorry to hear that man...

maybe you should consider european sump. i have one and it's dead efficient and doesn't make a sound. thing is, you must know how to cut glass, but i learned! not that hard.

here's the general idea:

(you can use a translator maybe since it's in french)

and here's an updated version

the sump is built in the 2-3 first pages
